How to Actually Stick to a Workout Routine

Motivation is a trap. It comes and goes. Discipline is what lasts.

The secret is to make working out as easy as possible. Lay out your clothes the night before. Go to the gym at the same time every day. Have a plan before you walk in. Remove every obstacle between you and your workout.

Start small. A twenty minute workout that you actually do is better than an hour long workout that you skip. Build the habit first. Increase the intensity later.

Find something you enjoy. If you hate the gym, do not go. Hike, swim, play basketball, do yoga. Movement should not be punishment.

Track your progress. Not for comparison. For proof. Proof that you showed up. Proof that you are improving. That proof keeps you going.

The hardest part is the first month. After that, it becomes normal. You will feel wrong on days you do not work out. That is when it sticks.
